Alternative Sentencing Conference, Tbilisi 23 September 2010
NORLAG, Penal Reform International, the Council of Europe, EU Rule of Law project and UNICEF will hold a conference on alternative sentencing 23 September 2010. The intention of the conference is to create awareness and discussion about community sentence as an alternative to imprisonment.

Presentation "Causing Factors of Juvenile Offenses"
10 February, 2010. The meeting will be held in Rustavi Rehabilitation Center in the framework of the project “Establishing Rehabilitative Schemes for Juvenile Offenders in Georgia”. The juvenile probationers, participating in the project, will present the results of the research regarding the causing factors of offense among juveniles.

The projects supported under Small Grants Initiative, Phase II by Norlag and PRI:

Activities-Kutaisi-Prison (Mothers and Children’s Defence League)
The project includes activities for psycho-social rehabilitation of Convicted Prisoners at the Prison and Strict Regime Establishment # 2 in Kutaisi encompassing civil education of convicted prisoners, assistance to the integration of ethnic minorities, and facilitating contact with the outside world. The project will also target awareness-raising of prisoners in health issues as well as organizing various sports and cultural activities for inmates.

Computers-Kutaisi-Prison (Democracy Support Centre)
The project includes re-socialization of prisoners by increasing their labour potential and Expanding sphere of their interests. Under the project computer courses will continue to be provided to convicted prisoners (about 90 of them) and also the web-design studio set up under the previous Phase will be developed and supported.

Pre-release-Rustavi 2-Prison (Psychologists’ Association)
The project includes incorporation of the pre-release program in the Rustavi N2 colony. Within the project training will be provided to prisoners to prepare them for the reintegration into the society after their release, as well as a TOT for social workers on how to apply the Pre-release Programme. Also some publications regarding the Pre-release Programme will be produced.

Pre-release-Ksani-Prison (Centre for First Psychological Support)
The project includes incorporation of the pre-release program at Ksani penal establishment # 7. Within the project training will be provided to prisoners to prepare them for the reintegration into the society after their release, as well as a TOT for social workers on how to apply the Pre-release Programme.

Addiction-Tbilisi-Probation (Anti-Violence Network Georgia)
The project envisages psycho-social rehabilitation of substance-addicted probationers through a 12-step approach under the Atlantis programme.

Juveniles-Batumi-Probation (Democracy Institute)
The project includes training, vocational skills development and support to the employment of juveniles on probation, those released from police detention and released from preliminary detention. The training includes Computer skills, hairdressing, carpentry and other vocations; also under the project different sports groups of juvenile probationers, and minors released from police custody and remand will be established, their sports skills will be developed, and healthy lifestyle will be promoted.
