Presentation "Causing Factors of Juvenile Offenses"
10 February, 2010. The meeting will be held in Rustavi Rehabilitation Center in the framework of the project “Establishing Rehabilitative Schemes for Juvenile Offenders in Georgia”. The juvenile probationers, participating in the project, will present the results of the research regarding the causing factors of offense among juveniles.

Fifth Meeting of the Community Service Working Group in Kutaisi

“Penal Reform International” (PRI) is organizing the fifth meeting of the working group created in the framework of the project “Promoting the Use of Community Service”, funded by NORLAG. The meeting will take place on 24th of November at the PRI Kutaisi Office, 15 Zviad Gamsakhurdia Street.

The representatives from the prosecutor’s office of Imereti region, courts, local governmental and self-governmental bodies, regional probation bureau, lawyers from the Legal Aid Service and non-governmental sector and the representatives of Penal Reform International (PRI) and the Norwegian Mission of Rule of Law Advisers to Georgia (NORLAG) will participate in the working group meeting.

The participants of the working group will hold a discussion about the current situation in the region in regards with the use of community service, the changes, as well as the ways and perspectives to raise the efficiency of the use of such form of punishment. The main purpose of the activity is to strengthen the confidence of all participating parties towards the wider use of community service. PRI, in strong cooperation with the probation officers, will focus and draw attention to the implementation of community service in practice.

The establishment of effective practice and promotion of wider use of the community service would help to challenge prison overcrowding. PRI aims at promotion of the use and effective implementation of alternatives to imprisonment in South Caucasus region.
