PRI urges the Public Defender to turn his promises into reality |
| Penal Reform International and local non governmental organisations are holding a two-day conference in Tbilisi on the prevention of torture in the South Caucasus, 1-2 October. The conference comes just days after George Tugushi, Public Defender of Georgia stated that a torture prevention group comprising experts and non governmental organisations would monitor places of detention. |

In Support of a Stronger Mechanism to Prevent Torture (Conference Day II) |
| Today at 10.00 starts the second day of a two-day Conference “Prevention of Torture: what does it mean and how well do we do it in South Caucasus?” organized by Penal Reform International (PRI) under the support of EC. Conference has a particular focus on Georgia in light of the recent designation of the Public Defender of Georgia as a National Preventive Mechanism (NPM) according to the Optional Protocol to the UN Convention against Torture.

Training/Workshop for Rehabilitative Scheme Staff in Tbilisi (24 August - 1 September) |

A joint workshop will be facilitated for Rustavi, Batumi and Kutaisi rehabilitative scheme team managers in cooperation with PRI and UNCIEF to build the capacity of the teams to develop ideas for the future development of the projects. The workshop will be led by Geoff Wright, Social Work Consultant invited from the Children’s Legal Centre (CLC), University of Essex, UK. |
