Roundtable Discussion on NPM
On June 22, 2009 in connection with the 3rd anniversary of the OPCAT coming into force, to which Georgia is a State Party, PRI and Public Defender’s Office (PDO) are organising a roundtable discussion at the PDO office on how to effectively put in place and operate a National Torture Preventive Mechanism (NPM) in Georgia.

June the 22nd marks the third year of waiting for the Georgian Government to implement the Optional Protocol to the Convention against Torture; a UN convention created to prevent people being subjected to torture and other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment.

Roundtable Discussion on the Draft Code of Imprisonment
On July 11 at Bazaleti Lake Hotel a roundtable discussion is organised on the draft Code of Imprisonment by the Ministry of Corrections and Legal Aid. The meeting is organized with the financial support of the Penal Reform International (PRI) within the framework of its EU-funded project “Prevention of Torture in Georgia” and also by the Norwegian Mission of Rule of Law Advisors to Georgia (NORLAG).

Training Seminar on Prohibition of Torture
On July 10, 2009 a training seminar on Prohibition of Torture is organised for senior prison staff by the Penitentiary and Probation Training Centre of the Ministry of Corrections and Legal Aid, jointly with Penal Reform International (PRI), under its EU-funded project “Prevention of Torture in Georgia” and with co-funding from the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR).
